Chris Brown BET Interview Response to Rihanna 20/20 Interview

I DO NOT SUPPORT CHRIS BROWN BY POSTING THIS... But I want people to see the HUGE differences between the levels of maturity and intellectuality between these two...

His responses just interest me and I wanted to post this just in case anyone else was interested in hearing what both have been having to say as well.

P.S. He's SO lucky he's not in prison lol

Rihanna Breaks Her Silence on Good Morning America

I have been following this Rihanna/Chris Brown incident for months and I just want to say that I haven't really been a fan of Rihanna's music since her first album. *I was into the kiddy pop lol*

But I must say that Rihanna has grown into a beautiful, STRONG, resilient woman and I truly respect her.

She is a survivor and has become the ultimate role model, as you'll see in these videos. I'll continue to post as she continues to speak out about her abuse.

I applaud her for her courage :)

What Happens When Your Raise Your Kids On BET??

PLEASE Black People,

PLEASE stop raising our babies like this! All this does is perpetuate the stereotype that all Black women are good for is sex and booty-shakin'.

This is
in no way "adorable", as the original uploader of this video claims.

It breaks my heart.....that baby girl can't be any older than 2 years old, and she's on top the table, winin' n grinin' while whoever is taping it cracks up in the background.

We are better than this, Black People.....we are Kings and Queens, not street hoe's and pole dancers......

Our babies deserve better parenting than this...

They deserve the world, so why not give it to them?

Do we own nature?

Hello my fellow bloggers!
I am so so so sorry for falling of the blogging wagon for so long...what's it been, like 3 months?

Geez...I can't do that again.
Well, I'm back for good!

But I don't have anything to write about right now at this instance because I'm in class and I'm suppose to be paying attention the video my professor's playing for us.

It's about Vandana Shiva and her fight against the global food crisis.
Did you know you can actually
patent a plant seed? Like, you can OWN a type of seed and make it so that people have to pay you if they need to grow that seed. WTF is the world coming to? How can you just own an organism?

People literally starve to death cuz they can't grow the plants they need on their farms because they can't afford to pay the millions of dollars it costs to pay for the ONE kind of corn seed they were already growing to sustain their families!

Did I lose you on that one?

Lemme break it down for you lol:

One day, a truck carrying a ton of corn seeds that were genetically modified (we'll call it CornX) drove by a small farmer who was minding his own business. The tarp happened to fly off and a bunch of seeds landed in this poor farmer's ditch.

So now this poor farmer's got their CornX plants growing in his ditch. He tries to spray them with pesticides to kill them, but they've been genetically modified to resist any kind of pesticides. So now, he's not only got corn plants he doesn't want, but he's got this bionic species rooted in his ditch.

WELL, the corporation that patented CornX comes around and finds his plants and decides to sue him for growing their seeds. Do you know that the man lost the case? He didn't even PLANT the damn things, but now, he's millions of dollars in debt to this corporation.

This is happening all over the world!
Small farmers' lives are being destroyed because we as a society believe that we own the environment.

Yeah, so that's what we're watching in class right now...

Hmmm..looks like I really did have something to talk about today...Nice :)

British Mom gets plastic surgery to look like her Daughter

This is a classic example of the effects of the Beauty Myth and the devaluing of older women in our society. We have taught ourselves to value youth and "beauty" above all else, and when we lack either, our society seems to encourage us to change ourselves in some way.

Although I have never heard of this kind of thing, it is apparently becoming a trend. Mothers feeling a loss of something in their own lives and needing to change their physical appearances, to match those of their daughters.

There are so many deep-seeded issues with this that I don't really know where to begin. I completely understand feeling self-conscious or disliking parts of ones self...after all, we live in a society which teaches us to look, act, and literally be whatever it tells us to....and we listen.

Plastic surgery is no new phenomenon, nor are the critiques that have developed over the past 2 decades. It is no secret that plastic surgery (when used as a cosmetic) signifies some level of one's distaste for parts of her/his own body. (I say this because it's the truth, not my opinion)

My only question is what causes so many people to dislike their bodies so intensely that they have to change every part of it, almost to nonrecognition?

We are failing ourselves.

We, as a society, are failing each other because we allow the influence of media, which we create, to dictate the lives of others. Yes, we are dictating each others life choices through fashion trends, advertisements, and mass media productions.

Now, I don't know how to change this directly, but at some point, we have to start taking care of each a society. We can't continue to force people (yes, force...psychologically) into small boxes where they feel they must take extreme measures to escape.

There are so many women, and men, who feel inadequate in this society, and I'm sure they feel closed in by the pressures to be perfect.

What can we do to stop this trend?

I am beautiful as I am. I am the shape that was gifted. My breasts are no longer perky and upright like when I was a teenager. My hips are wider than that of a fashion model's. For this I am glad, for these are the signs of a life lived.

Disney's "The Princess and the Frog"- My stream of consciousness

This will be the first time Disney has created a princess movie where the princess is Black....But I have this weird feeling about it and I'm not sure it's justified...

So, I know the girl has dark skin and clearly by her voice, she's suppose to be Black...but...I know I don't look like her...and I don't think I've come across many Black women who do. Honestly, I feel like they just drew a white princess and painted her a lil bit darker lol.

But is that bad? Like, I know some would probably have found it offensive if they had given her "Black" features (notice the quotes cuz what are Black features really?), but I'm not quite satisfied with how she looks. Just like I was never satisfied with my Black barbies as a kid . They just looked like regular barbie with darker skin...not like any Black woman I had ever seen.

Am I wrong for being so critical or should I just be happy that they're finally coming out with something like this? I feel guilty for my dissatisfaction.

I's a hard thing to think about because I soooo badly wanna feel excited about a Black princess...I just feel like her image is inaccurate.

But I could just be trippin...

I mean, did any of the characters actually look Black to yall? Even the prince and the bad guy? I know we as Black people are very versatile in our complections and facial features, especially in New Orleans.

So maybe they are making the movie accurate and I'm just fishing...I dunno lol...she is just a cartoon, after all...

You tell me!

Swine Flu

I know this has nothing to do with activism, but it's pretty damn serious right now and I wanted to make some kind of post about it.

Swine Flu is spreading fast, so PLEASE cover your coughs and sneezes and WASH YOUR HANDS, people! (you wouldn't
believe how many people neglect to do so)

Here's the link to a fact sheet about the Flu in Oregon. Have a look!

I got this from Happy Nappy Head

I don't know what to say about this...I mean....dang....I really don't know what to say, it caught me so off guard lol.

I'ma leave this one up to yall to analyze...this is just too much, overwhelmingly so.

"Race" doesn't exist, my friends!

I've stolen this video from my friend's blog: Reflections on Being

Fear-mongering at it's best-"Gathering Storm"

Just watch the speaks for itself.

Why is it that so many people who call themselves "followers of Christ" think it's ok to use fear and manipulation to get what they want? It baffles me.

I honestly don't think God cares who gets married to who, considering there are sooooo many more important issues going on in the world, like...hmmm....the Darfur Genocide???

I wanna see the SAME people who participated in this video talk about how horrible the child slave trade is, or how immoral trafficking women in the sex trade is, OR how messed up it is that HIV meds are too expensive for 99% of the world's HIV/AIDS victims to afford...HOW BOUT WE TALK ABOUT SOME REAL ISSUES, huh?

I'm a proud supporter of Gay Marriage and I can't stand that so many self-righteous people are standing in the way of the happiness of millions. I mean, it's not that serious...really...

According to the fundamentalists, you can be a mass murderer your whole life, accept Christ on your death-bed, and *poof*, go to Heaven.
What does God care if you marry someone you love who happens to be the same-sex as you? God's got better and BIGGER ish to think about...really.

Don't you think we should be trying to reform the mass murderers out there instead of people who just wanna be happy in their own bedrooms?

R.I.P. Adina Charles

My grandmother died yesterday morning. And I feel the need to blog about it for some reason. Maybe because this is suppose to be my "diary" and I'm supposed to include the everyday happenings in my life.

She lived in Grenada, where my mother is from, so I wasn't there. In fact, I didn't get to see her once a year growing up...but she was still my Grandmother.

I can't go to the funeral because I live on the West Coast and it takes like 23 hours to get there from here. I've just started a 30 hr/wk internship and have classes that I can't miss...but I guess I'll be at the funeral in spirit.

It kinda sucks living out here away from the fam because when things like this happen, I can't make it. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE living on the West and in no way, shape, or form, want to move back East anytime soon lol. (I'm from Baltimore, MD btw) But it is hard to feel the sense of family when all of them are on the other side of the country.

Newho, she lived a long long life (90 years) and had 4 amazing children. She was married for 54 years to my grandfather, who's still kickin' today at the age of 96.
Just wanted to post this in her honor.

Why, oh why?

Yes. I. Love. Twilight.

I can't explain it, but I can't deny it lol...

Why, oh why?

Seriously, I've watched the movie twice since I downloaded it and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna watch it again tomorrow lol.

This movie is like that boy/girl in middle school you secretly had a crush on, but he was like the nerdiest kid in the class so you never told anyone...but you REALLY liked him lol.

Yea, that's how I feel about Twilight.

And the sad part is, I can't wait for the sequel!! I'm literally counting down till November 20 (that's right, I know the release date lol)

Well, just wanted yall to know my secret!

New Ciara and Justin Timberlake video- "Love Sex & Magic"

Hmmm....All I have to say is that my heart literally hurt after watchin this thing.

Here's an excerpt from Soul Bounce:

Someone please explain why Justin Timberlake continually gets a pass to fetishize and exploit the image of Black women. Right now. Because after watching him aggressively pulling on a chain wrapped around Ciara's neck only to later use her bending body as a leaning post in her new video for "Love Sex Magic," it's getting ludicrously difficult to understand.

Yes...someone PLEASE explain WTF just happened??? I feel like I just watched some really really unforgivable-for-watching porn, thats how bad that video was lol...and no one was even naked!

Why is it that Ciara felt the need to exploit herself sexually AND why is it that JT can't stop puttin his grimy hands all over Black women like we're play things in public?!

Now, those of you who know me know that Mr. Dekker (my other half) is white...and yes, I am Black (I hope yall woulda figured that out by now). Therefore, I have no qualm whatsoever with interracial coupling or nething....

What I have a problem with is the misrepresentation of Black femininity as it relates to White men in the media. Justin Timberlake has repeatedly caressed Black women's bodies (not that we can't be caressed) and he repeatedly contributes to the exoticism and over-sexualization of Black women.

I mean, yall remember Janet. Regardless of whether or not that boob-grab was planned, he touched her bare breast on national television. This is not to say that she wasn't at fault (in case it was planned), but we have to think about the overall message received when shit like that happens with Black women.

This video not only eroticizes Ciara (which she clearly intended to do herself) but it puts him in a place of power over her with the dog chain. Also, her crawling around like a stripper further implicates the power differential between him as a White man and her as a Black woman.

PLUS, I saw "Crazy Horse Paris" in Vegas...and she stole ALL her scenes from an artistically classy burlesque show and turned it into garbage. I'm just as pissed at her for flaunting her body in a way that demeans Black women everywhere as I am at JT. BTW, This is what she was going for:

"Crazy Horse Paris"

To the Artists:

No, Ciara, I do not feel any sexier than I did before you crawled around on your hands and knees to get Justin off. That wasn't sexiness.

No, Justin, Black women are not about to let you put a dog collar on us...(I wish sumbody would try and put a damn collar round my neck...see what happens lol)

To you Readers:

Please comment on this cuz I really wanna get some discussion going!

The Goins-ons

Ok, so I have been the worst blogger lately cuz I've just been super MIA, and for this, I apologize!'s what's been goin on with me musically:

Luck-One, an upcoming MC out of Portland has just co-released a fabulous Hip Hop album with my Mr. Dekker. In fact, the project is by Luck-One & Dekk.

Newho, I was featured on the album on a song called "Coulda Been Me" and it, along with the rest of the album, has been receiving
boockoo amounts of recognition all over the net and the entire Hip Hop scene in Portland! How exciting right?? RIGHT!

So, there was an album release party on March 5th at Berbati's Pan in Portland and I was invited to perform the one song with Luck-One....AMAZINGness!!
(yea, looks like he's gonna eat me right? lol funny)

Anyways, it was the most fun I've ever had performing in my life! And I am so excited to do it again...and again...and again!! Soooo, I've decided to try and become an official "upcoming" artist :)

After the show, like 3 people got ahold of me to work with them on their own albums! STOKED!

So, I guess this post is an official THANK YOU to both Dekk (*muah*) and Luck-One for including me on this amazing project and showing me that I truly can have a future in music.

To my readers, I have started a myspace music page:
PLEASE add me if you have myspace and listen to the song!

Also, download the whole album at Mr. Dekker's blog:
Finding Dinosaurs

It has been selling like crazy on Itunes (i kno, right? ITUNES) but it's free on his blog.

I am dramatic...and I hate it.

It's nearly 1 am and I have an 8am class that I frequently miss, but I'm up thinking about how dramatic I am...and then blogging about dramatic.

I hate that I have to talk to someone, anyone, about myself in order to feel like I'm worth even talking about...I guess I figure, if I don't tell my story, who will?

Yeah, what I forget is that telling your "own story" is what makes people wanna hear it even less.

No one likes to hear someone talk about themselves all the time right? Or at least that's what I've always heard....

No one wants to know about your drama or your life story because then, you're just too complicated...

And I don't want to be complicated....

Arab Money (Remix)....WTF??? Busta Rhymes and every other ignorant rapper out right now have decided to create a music video about (get this)

And not just about how much money they have, but about the ARAB money they the middle of the biggest recession since the Great Depression..........thanks, Busta et al.
(If you don't know what et al. means, it's just so I don't have to list all the rappers' names everytime)

Thanks for lettin me know how much money YOU have, while me and the rest of the f-ing country are in thousands of dollars in debt...OR while most of the country's homes and cars are being repossessed....thanks Busta et al. for the reminder of just how POOR I am...I'm gonna go buy your next album now...

And thanks P. Diddy, for lettin' me know that you don't give a f*ck about the recession...I know this, P.Diddy, because you so bluntly have said "Fuck a recession, I'm still investin'...."
Thanks Diddy....I'm glad you have your millions and your diamonds...

Not only is this video a pile of cockamamie bullshit, it's highly offensive to the Arab world!

It's crazy, cuz while I was watching this video, Mr. Dekker suggested "What if Eminem came out with a song claiming 'I got Negro Moneeeey!'"

You know what? That's a damn good point! Cuz he'd get is ass BEAT, lol. There is no excuse for these grown ass men to be gallivanting around like they own the world....God, what f-ing ignorance!

This is why I don't listen to main stream rap....

Racist Cartoon targets Obama

I found this on a Feminist Philosophy blog...the New York Post posted this cartoon in one of their editorials yesterday...

Fureal? I mean, come on New York Post...really?

It is not surprising to me that the level of racism in this country has not decreased just because Obama is president. But this is completely and utterly uncalled for....unacceptable!

I am offended as a Black woman that some one thought it ok to post such a racist image in a newspaper...Black people have been compared to animals, particularly apes, for centuries, and it is just so discouraging to see that there are still many who would see ME as an ape!!

I am outraged!!

Please click the picture to read the official article...

I'm Sick

Rihanna/Chris Brown scandal

I follow a blog called Happy Nappy Head and the author posted a really interesting take on the whole Rihanna/Chris Brown scandal that I think everyone should read...

It pains me to know that there are many Black women out there who believe that we, as Black women, are deserving of domestic violence because we "pop off at the mouth" to Black men.

I'll be damned if I let anybody slap me up and then turn around and blame myself for it! This is really a form of self-hatred that has developed among many Black women and it is truly depressing.

Please read this blog post and let's get some discussion going on this!

My Bad

Sorry yall, I've been really busy studying for a crazy midterm I have coming up so I've been MIA on the Blogger...But I'll be on my feet again in a couple days! (My midterm is tomorrow...)

Wish me luck!

I have great friends...and I love them so much...just wanted to say that :)

Ex-Masturbator Campaign...

WHAAATTT??? Oh Lawd!

Apparently, there's some Passion for Christ campaign that's getting young adults to stop masturbating! They've created these "ex shirts" for youth to wear, claiming that they are no longer commiting the "violation" against their own article calls it an "illegal orgasm"

HAHAHAHA!!!! I can't believe this! REALLY? I mean, FURREALS?

This is dangerous on so many levels! People are continuously trying to convince us that our bodies are evil and that any pleasure we give it is sinful. What about "loving yourself"? To me, that statement includes sexually lol...

I, like millions of others, grew up believing that my body was off limits to everyone, including me. And you know, that mindset led me to believe that my body was never mine. This is dangerous! We are human beings, built to enjoy the pleasures of life...all of them!

I just can't believe that there are actually thousands of people my age who are believing the lie that masturbation defiles the body...shit! Alcohol defiles the body faster than touching yourself lol...and I'm sure all these "Ex-Masturbators" have picked up a drink sometime in their lives. I just don't like the flaunting of "purity" when there's nothing to be pure from!

Please, check this out and lets get some conversation goin on this in the comments section, lol...this is bananas!

This is a new mix tape by a good friend and amazing DJ Kid Couture. He's had shows at Downward Dog in Corvallis, so for any of you readers who live here and go to Cloud 9, you know who he is!

Anyways, this is his newest project and I'm gonna need ALL YALL to download it and listen! Maye even share :)

The project is presented by Pigeons and Planes, a blogger both I and Dekk follow...
(click on Pigeons and Planes to get to the download)

This thing is I've been playin it everyday since I got it!

Erykah Badu blog

So apparently it's now the "in" thing to blog while in labor...childbrith labor lol...

Erykah Badu (whom I love as a musician) has just opened the door to what I believe is a new level of blogging. This woman gave hourly updates of her own labor!

Now, I think that' s maybe a lil bit cute (maybe) but damn, when I'm in labor, don't expect my ass to be on nobody's Twitter textin to the world lol...I just think this is too funny, that's all...

Plus, her kids' names are Puma and Seven...yes, the wild cat and the number yall.

But, nonetheless, the woman is an amazing musician, so I guess it's ok lol.

Ok so I gotta get this out...

Does it ever seem like some people exist just to try n make you feel bad about yourself? Like their only purpose on this earth is to bring you down in some way cuz there couldn't possibly be any other explanation for the fact that they even breathe the same air as you? If people like this really exist, I'm pretty sure I ran into one this weekend lol...

Now, I'm not tryna be mean or bitter or fact, I'm writing this so I don't turn bitter! So this person that I know (we'll call this person Angela...since I hate Angela's character on The Office) has gotten so far under my skin that just the mention of her name pisses me off. And you know wut? I don't even know how we got this way! All I know is one day, she started really making me feel bad about myself. And how fucked up is that? So, naturally, I cut her off.

BUT....even when I run into her, it's like she's got some kind of jedi mind shit goin, cuz sure enough, I start developing trillions of insecurities...and stupid ones too! Like "I'm I suck", or "There's dishes in my I suck", or "I'm I suck" lol...

SEE??? These are the dumbest most littlest most stupidest insecurities that I have managed to give this person complete control over!

Oh and that's not all about Angela...(btw, to my real cousin Angela, this is not you lol...jus in case u read this one) This b*tch (yes, I kno I don't use that word, but this is my one exception) is the biggest shit talker I know! So I guess that's another reason I let her get to me...poo literally flies out her mouth when she forms words, thats how much shit she talks lol.

I mean why do people like this even exist? And they somehow manage to turn others against you...which is even worse! But i guess anyone who gets turned by a shit-talker ain't worth the dust behind ur fridge neway lol...(like that analogy? I made it up lol. Cuz who thinks about the dust behind their fridge?)

Ok so I guess my point to all this is FUCK THE ANGELAs OF THE WORLD!! And if you've got an Angela in your life, DO SHARE in the comments section cuz I'd love to hear about her/him!
If you don't have one, more power to ya!

Meanwhile, I'll be remembering that nobody is worth me feeling bad about fact, I'll remember that all the dumbest most littlest most stupidest insecurities are just that!

Nobody's perfect,
everybody has dishes in their sink,
EVERYBODY's broke right now (damn economy),
and everybody gets moody sumtime...................

Now go clean that damn dust from behind your fridge!

Mr. Dekker

I don't usually make posts about my personal life outside of social issues or activism or nething (since this is suppose to be an activism blog...but I think that's gonna change soon) but I wanted to honor the fact that Mr. Dekker and I have just celebrated our third year anniversary! And I want to say that the last 3 years have been the BEST years of my life...I am so in love and so excited to spend the rest of my life with this man!

Many of you have probly heard me say "Damn! I can't wait to graduate! Ugh!"

Yeah, well that's cuz once I finally graduate, I can leave Corvalley and join Mr. Dekker up north! It sux living apart :( But newho, I just wanted to celebrate our three years wit this post!

Inauguration Day 2009

It's finally happened...Barack Hussein Obama is my president! For the first time in my life, I feel like I can claim the U.S. president as my own...I am proud to be an American citizen today.

As you all know from my earlier ranting, I'm broke lol....that means I don't have cable (or any TV stations except OPB...and who wants to watch that everyday
all day?). So, I missed most of the televised celebration today. I was in class at 8 am this morning and got to see the very end of Obama's speech, the poet, and the Benediction (which I ended up crying during lol)...

I felt so proud today! And I'm excited to watch this man grow as a leader and encourage real change in this society! I don't really know what else to say other than I am so so so so happy that

Update on Stripper Mom

Ok so here is a video of "Stripper Mom" trying to justify her previous video! I got this, again, from Happy Nappy Head
(an amazing blog that you should all follow).

I dunno how I feel about this response. She claims that she's a pole dance instructor and in no way teaching her child to be a stripper...hmmm....raise your hand if you believe that one! (there should be no hands raised at this time). I mean, if she's not teachin' the girl, then why have her anywhere near the pole or even mimicking her moves? I understand that mothers should teach their children about sexuality, but honestly, steering them in the direction of erotic dancing or anything of the sort when they could be social activists or doctors or anything else in the world...i dunno...seems kinda fishy to me! I will say that the woman clearly understands the implications of her video.
Well, I'll let you come to your own conclusions about it by giving you the response video!

Is this what mothering has become?

So I found this video on a blog I follow called Happy Nappy Head
(an amazing blog, btw).
I just want to say that it breaks my heart to know that there are mothers who believe that sexualizing their toddler and adolescent children is good parenting. In fact, I have a family member who, over Christmas, thought it exciting that her 2-year old daughter could execute the new Chris Brown "coochie pop" while straddling the floor. I was mortified, to say the least. And you know, this isn't new to me! But it never stops being depressing when I see it.

So, ladies and gentlemen, I give you....Stripping 101 for Toddlers (that's what I'm calling it)

PLEASE comment on this...I really want feedback!

Back On the Blogging Grind

Sorry about the month long got kinda hectic what with Christmas and New Years and all...

But I'M BACK AND IN ACTION! (corny, I know)

So, how many people here hate money? (raise your hand)
I HATE MONEY! In fact, it's gotta be one of the most depressing aspects of life to makes me sad, it makes me mad, it makes me feel like I can conquer the world when I have enough of it (which I never do). I can honestly say that me and Money have a love/hate relationship like no other.
I swear, I think banks are literally God's (or Goddess') way of saying "Aha! That's what you get! I'm gonna hold your money and charge you $35 when you go over your available balance by even one cent!" I hate banks! In fact, I'm gonna switch to a credit union!!
**breathe...just breathe**
Yes, I'm bitter...and broke, lol.

So I have a funny video to share from SNL! Has nothing to do with anything but it's funny so WATCH IT :)

P.S. I think I might name my child Freba after watching this thing lol
